Columbiana - Edward Rolland Gilkey, 88, formerly of Lisbon, died at 1:26 AM Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring.
Mr. Gilkey was born April 25, 1926 in New Castle, PA, the son of the late William G. and Ola M. (Conkle) Gilkey.
A WW II Navy veteran and graduate of Slippery Rock University and Penn State University, he retired from teaching in 1986 after 25 years at Lisbon David Anderson High School. He will also be remembered for his community involvement. Ed was a member and past elder at New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, served on the Lisbon School Board for 8 years, as president for several years. He was a licensed football, basketball, track and field, and harness racing official. He also served on the Board of Public Affairs as well as manage the Lisbon pool for several years. In Las Vegas, where he lived from 1996 to 2002, he worked as a station supervisor for Champion Air.
At Ed’s request, there will be no service.
