Lisbon -Eugene E. McLaughlin, 83, of Garfield Avenue made his journey at 4:04
PM Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Salem Community Hospital.
Born August 4, 1925 in West Point, he was a son of the late Herbert G. and
Minnie M. (Warrington) McLaughlin.
He had worked as a molder and foreman at Columbiana Pump for 47 years,
retiring in 1996.
A Navy veteran of WW II, he received a Commendation for rescuing survivors at
Bataan Island and Corregidor in the Philippines and participated in a night battle in the
Siargo Strait defeating the Japanese Navy, received 4 stars for his service in the Asiatic
Pacific Campaign, 2 stars for service in the Philippine Liberation Campaign as well as a
Victory Medal. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church, a life member of VFW
Post 4111 and was a member of the Salem Elks.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Sholea) McLaughlin whom he married March
4, 1942; his sons Larry ( Sandra) McLaughlin of Lisbon, and David McLaughlin of
Columbus; 4 grandchildren: Michelle McLaughlin, Melissa DeVille, Brynn McLaughlin,
and Tyler McLaughlin; 6 great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Josh, and Jeran Cox and Ciara,
Autumn, and Eddie DeVille; a great-great granddaughter, Aubrie Lee; brothers William
McLaughlin of South Carolina and Thomas McLaughlin of Chicago, IL; and a
sister-in-law Ann Reynolds of Lisbon.
He was preceded in death by his son Rick McLaughlin, a brother Harold C.
McLaughlin, and sisters Mary Dixon and Harriet Entrikin.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Weber
Funeral Home with the Rev. Fayette Grose officiating. Burial will be in Lisbon
Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
