Sebring -Frank Forbes Carnes, 92, formerly of Leetonia, passed away peacefully early Monday morning August 16, 2010 at Copeland Oaks.
Born March 6, 1918 in Lisbon, he was a son of the late Charles Milton and Mary Isabella Carnes.
He worked as a self-employed fruit grower with Carnes-Sitler Orchards in Leetonia for 44 years, retiring in 1985.
Frank and his wife lived in Florida and Georgia for 23 years. He returned to Ohio in 2009. He was a WW II veteran of the Army Signal Corps having served five years including 26 months in the Aleutian Islands and Alaska. He received a Bronze Star and was discharged a Master Sergeant. He was a life member of the WashingtonvilleV.F.W. and a 65 year member of Leetonia F& AM No. 401. A former member of St. Jacobs United Church of Christ, he and his late wife delivered Meals on Wheels in Florida for many years. He enjoyed surf fishing, horse shoes, travel, and sports.
Survivors include three children: Ann (Billie) Vincent of Oak Hill, VA, Frank Carnes of Claysburg, PA, and Susan Hansen of Monticello, GA; three grandchildren: Ryan Vincent, Aden Carnes, and Sarah Carnes; and a great-granddaughter, Brianna Vincent.
His wife, Eunice (Caldwell) Carnes, whom he married January 12, 1947 died November 8, 2008. Also deceased are a brother Charles M. Carnes and a sister Margaret C. Baker.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, August 28 at Copeland Oaks chapel with the Rev. Jenna Brown officiating.
