Salem - Frank Steve Chuck, 95, passed away Tuesday evening, May 31, 2016.
Frank was born December 5, 1920 in Power Point (West Point), a son of the late John and Mary (Macek) Chuck.
He had worked in the coal industry for many years at companies including Power Point Coal Co., Marshall Mining Co., and Beaver Creek Coal Co. He later worked as a custodian at St. Paul’s church and school.
He is survived by two sisters: Clara Snowberger and Virginia Pastore, both of Lisbon, a step-son, William Dennan of Philadelphia, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Viola (Sell) Chuck in 2006 as well as his brothers Victor Sr., Herbert Sr., and Edward Chuck, and his sisters Victoria Dukes and Elizabeth Bergman and a step-daughter Marlene Randolph.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. A proud WWII veteran, he enjoyed and looked forward to riding in the Memorial Day parade and was a member of the DAV, VFW Post 66 in East Liverpool, the American Slovak Club, SNPJ No. 358, and was a charter member of the WW II monument supporters in Washington, D.C. He was a lively and dynamic man who enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening as well as watching his beloved Cleveland Indians. He served as president of the SNPJ for 10 years and as a delegate to its convention. He had belonged to the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to World War II.
In his younger days, he dug the first hole for a time capsule in Salem in 1956 and dug the first shovel of dirt in 2006 when it was brought up. Frank had a kind and generous spirit and liked to help others.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Weber Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Wassie officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Salineville American Legion. Burial will be at Lisbon Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
