Lisbon - Gary G. Hiner, 62, of West Maple Street passed away at 11:55 AM Thursday, December 24, 2009 at his home following a lengthy illness.



Born March 19, 1947 in Salem to Jennie (Bogdan) Hiner and the late George A. Hiner.



He was a self-employed roofer and had owned and operated Hiner's Ice Cream Parlor for a number of years.



Presbyterian by faith, he was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of V.F.W. Post 4111, the American Legion Post, and F.O.E. Aerie 2216. He enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling, and dancing. He was also an avid Cleveland Browns fan.



He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his mother of Lisbon, his wife, the former Rose Tafini whom he married February 15, 1969; three children: Melanie (Michael) Chidester of Lisbon, Matthew (Kimberly) Hiner of Granite Falls, NC, and Melissa (Rueben) Dowd of Lisbon; a brother, Larry Hiner of Los Angeles, CA; a sister, Diane (David) Whitesell of Mesa, AZ; and seven grandchildren: Jeremy, Jadon, and Julina Chidester; Trevor, Alexis, and Kylie Hiner; and Chloe Dowd as well as many nieces and nephews.



His brother Dwain Hiner is deceased.



The funeral service will be held t 11:00 AM Monday at the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Wilds and the Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 PM Sunday at the Weber Funeral Home.



Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Valley.
