Howard Wise, 80, formerly of New Waterford, died at 5:20 PM Monday at Parkside Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
Born November 7, 1935 in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Harry R. and Bertha L. (Jones) Wise.
Howard worked as a barber for 50 years and operated Howard’s Barber Shop in Lisbon from 1978 to 2007.
A member of the Tri-State Christian Church, he also attended the Northeast Ohio Bible College and worked at Bye & Bye Hardware for a number of years. Howard was a spiritual man who loved attending church and sharing God’s word. He participated in community theater throughout the area performing in 34 performances including the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Mame, and Amadeus.
Survivors include his wife, Arleen (Plate) Wise of Wellsville and three children, Robert (Meredith Shipley) Wise, Marci (Andy) Dickson of Cambridge Springs, PA, and Kelli (Tom Powers) Horner of East Palestine; step-children Crystal (Stephen) Bocka of Pittsburgh, David Clark of Wellsville, and Cindy Clark of South Carolina; his sisters Ruby Ford of Florida, and Bonnie (Hubert) Congo of New Waterford; his brother Raymond (Pat) Wise of Tiffin, and five grandchildren: Casey and Elizabeth Dickson, Devon and Hailey Wise, and Hudson Powers.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, and sisters Thelma Lower, Mildred (Millie) Hartzel and Betty Frederick.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Weber Funeral Home with Don Cochran, minister, and Bill Kelly, evangelist, officiating. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens.
