Lisbon - John Newton Schnader, 96, passed away at 12:55 PM Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Salem Regional Medical Center.
Born October 11, 1922 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Daniel Zacharias and Harriet Amelia (Rinehart) Schnader.
John worked as a buyer for E.W. Bliss for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
A 1940 graduate of David Anderson High School, he was a member of Lisbon Ruritan, the American Legion, and served as Sunday School superintendent and church elder at St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II and the Korean War during which time he served as a parachute instructor and was commissioned as an officer at Ft. Benning, GA.
Survivors include his three children: Gene P. Schnader, Gale E. (Michael) Prasco, and Dennis E. Schnader all of Salem. There are 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren as well as his sisters, Miriam Smith of Lisbon and Naomi Lucaric, of Beaver Falls, PA, and a brother, David Schnader of New Philadelphia.
His loving wife of 71 years, Mary M. (Smallwood) Schnader, preceded him in death in 2015. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and an infant son.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ with Pastor Steven Johnson officiating. Calling hours are one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
