Karen (Bellomy) Bellomy Phillips

January 21, 1956 — July 27, 2016

Karen Bellomy Phillips passed away on Wednesday July 27th at UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh following a lengthy illness.  She was born January 21, 1956 to Clyde Bellomy and Regina Biggins Bellomy.  She was a 1974 graduate of Beaver Local High School and a 1978 graduate of Kent State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Education, Special Education, and Psychology.

She began her teaching career at Beaver Local High School and taught various subjects at the district until she retired from Calcutta Elementary School in 2002.  She was the cheerleading advisor for BLHS for many years. She was beloved by her students, and remained close friends with many of them throughout her life.  She received an “Angel on Earth” award after she was nominated by one of her students.

Karen was an extremely creative person and gifted cook.  She designed floral arrangements for many events and was a partner and owner of the former “Bellomy's Crafts and Gifts” store of Lisbon.  She shared her cooking talents by assisting with the Banquet of Lisbon each year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and first cousin, Diane Hall Bailey. She is survived by her husband, Gary Phillips, whom she married on June 2, 2002.  She is also survived by her first cousins, whom she considered her siblings.  Paul (Sandy) Robinson of East Liverpool; Jennifer (Derrell) Angle of Lisbon; Allan Biggins of Cleveland; Brent Biggins of Lisbon; Virginia (Michael Caligiuri) Barborak of Salem; Caroline (Steve May) Barborak of Munroe Falls; Nicholas (Brandy) Barborak of Lisbon; April Rodriguez of Virginia and Shanae Biggins of New York, NY.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday. The funeral will be 1:00 PM Monday with Rev. Tina Gallaher of the Lisbon First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lisbon.
