Lisbon - Leland R. Baker, 87, of North Avenue passed away Sunday evening November 16, 2008 at his home surrounded by family.Born October 21, 1921 in Elkrun Township, he was a son of the late Perry T. and Ruth L. (McCamon) Baker.He earned his living as a farmer. He had a passion for the land and animals and operated Baker Farms along with his twin brother Oland.Mr. Baker was a very active member of the Lisbon First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Columbiana County Farm Bureau, the Farm Bureau Council, Lisbon Ruritan, Columbiana-Mahoning County Poultry Asssociation, and the Columbiana-Mahoning County Hog Producers. He was once named Farmer of the Year by the Columbiana County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was also named the 1976 Farmer of the Year by the Farmers' Club of Greater Cleveland. He served as an Elkrun Township Trustee for 18 years and was the caretaker of Churchill Cemetery for many years. He was a member of Lisbon David Anderson High School Class of 1940.Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Bruey) Baker, whom he married June 9, 1943; two daughters, Gloria Moser and Marilyn ( Roger) McCullough both of Lisbon; five grandchildren, Mary Lynn (Scott) Janasof Brunswick, Donna (David) Sanor of Salem, Glenn Huston, Kristen Huston, and Matthew (Annie) McCullough all of Lisbon; and four great-grandsons.He was preceded in death by his twin brother Oland Baker, an infant son, and a grandson, Todd Huston.Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pamela Gable officiating. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery.
