Lisbon -Sherman Wherry of SR 45 died at 10:38 AM Sunday, August 29 in the emergency room at Salem Hospital.
Born December 14, 1918 in DeLong, WV, he was a son of the late Homer and Ina Ellen (Decker) Wherry.
Mr. Wherry worked at the Deming Pump company for 34 years, retiring in 1985.
He was an Army veteran of WW II having served in the Ninth Infantry Division as a medic in Africa, France, and Germany. A former member of St. Jacobs United Church of Christ, he enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had owned and operated B and K Nursery and enjoyed rebuilding gasoline engines.
Survivors include 7 children: Brenda K. (Duane) Metz of Mineral Ridge, Karen B. (Glenn) McIlhargie of Johnstown, OH, Sheila Mae (Elwin) Hawk, Russell E. (Sheri) Wherry, Clyde D. (Kathy) Wherry, and Virgil L. (Janie) Wherry all of Lisbon, and David L. (Lynne) Wherry of Glenn Allen, VA.; a sister, Edra Bennett of St. Mary's, WV; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death in 2009 by his wife, the former Evelyn M. Farmer, whom he married May 8, 1946. Also deceased are a granddaughter Kerry Lynn Hawk and 6 brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Weber Funeral Home with the Rev. Pam Gable officiating. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
