Victor John Chuck

West Point -Victor John Chuck, Sr., 97, of West Point passed away at 1:30 AM Monday, July 11, 2011 at his son's home surrounded by his loving family.



Born August 28, 1913 in East Palestine in the historic log home that now sits in East Palestine Park, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Macek) Chuck.



He retired in 1978 from a life-long career of coal mining with the Peg's Run Coal Company in Shippingport, PA. He also worked in construction.



He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Ninth Infantry Division/European Theater in World War II from 1942-1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Rifle Sharpshooter and Combat Infantryman Badges, the Bayonet Expert Badge, as well as the EAME Theater Ribbon with 6 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Ribbon.



Catholic by faith, Victor enjoyed beekeeping, hunting, fishing, and trapping and was an avid listener of polka music. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a life member of SNPJ Lodge 358 and the West Point Rod and Gun Club. He was also a member of Lisbon V.F.W.



Survivors include his wife Patsy R. (Keylor) Chuck; his sons William 'BG' (Kimberly) Chuck of West Point and Victor 'VJ' (Cathy) Chuck of Salem; 10 grandchildren: Joshua (Kylee) and Zachary of West Point and Cassie, Allee, Billy, Alanee, Alivia, Rylee, Reese, and Owen of Salem; a great-granddaughter Cheyenne of West Point, as well as siblings Frank Chuck of Salem, Clara Snowberger of Lisbon, Elizabeth Bergman of East Palestine and Virginia Pastore of Lisbon.



He was preceded in death by his siblings Reginia, Theodore, William, Herbert J. and Edward Chuck and Victoria Dukes.



The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Edna Pokorny for all her loving care and compassion in caring for Victor the past two years.



Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday at the Weber Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery. Calling hours will be observed from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
