Lisbon - William Howard Smith, Sr., 88, passed away at his home Friday Morning, April 24, 2015 following a lengthy illness.
Born September 2, 1926 in Washingtonville, he was a son of the late John and Maude (Fife) Smith.
He worked as a machinist for E.W. Bliss, retiring in 1987 after 37 years. Then he went to work at Albco Foundry for several years and as a change person for 12 years while living in Las Vegas.
A graduate of Leetonia High School, he was a Navy veteran of WW II. He had served as a Bishop at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a past member of the Salem Eagles.
Survivors include his wife Carol Ann Smith whom he married may 6, 1977 as well as his children Charlene Hunchuck of North Carolina, Darlene Smith of California, William (Barb) Smith, Jr. and Beverly (Jim) Davis both of Salem. There are three step-children: James (Bev) Fortune of Leetonia, Tammy Glenn, and Stevie (Amy) Stephens both of Lisbon as well as his sister Annetta Selway of Washingtonville, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings James, Johnny, and Russell Smith, Jeanette Kyser, and Abbey Ready.
The funeral will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Weber Funeral Home with the Rev. Tina Gallaher officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Calling hours are 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Funeral Home.
